"The end of the world"
This is finally the second to last episode of ~after story~, and what a tragic episode! all you need to do is look at the title to know the despair that would come along with this episode. well Tomoya, sanae and akii(akio's name this way is catchy : D ) find out that ushio have the same unknown disease as Nagisa. seeing tomoya all worked up akio tells him to stay calm in this situation, seeing how he's her father.
In result of the fever, Ushio and Tomoya end up not going to the athlete's meet (sports day), something that ushio was really looking forward too. telling her father that he should one day beat her grandfather akii. the week turns into 2 weeks then into a month with no change whatsoever to Ushio's condition but as winter gets closer so her condition worsens.Ushio stops going to school and Tomoya to spend more time by her side decides to quit his job not before giving a heartfelt farewell to yuusuke. Akio offers Tomoya some money to help him and ushio out, but tomoya declines it saying that he still has enough money, they go out shopping resting up at the place where nagisa was healed when she was on the verge of death, when she was first struck with the disease as a little girl, now turned into a hospital.Tomoya gives his philosophical thoughts on how Nagisa and Ushio may be spiritual connected to the town and how the more they destroy it causes their health to weakenUshio's fever worsens causing her to not even stand up properly or be able to do things by herself , tomoya decides on there being no point to send her to the hospital because they have no cure.
Tomoya starts to look after Ushio to the extent that it is noticeable he isn't getting any sleep at all. He asks Ushio for anything she likes and he'll give it to her. she tells him she wants to go on another trip again, tomoya tries to avoid this by telling her how he was angry and screaming the last time and how it wasn't fun but ushio tells him it was, he says that when she's better they'll both go but she asks to go now. giving in to her request they both head out.
Ushio is very slowly struggling to walk and it isn't long until it snows, Ushio asks her father if he likes the snow, which reminds him of the time of how it snowed when nagisa died. he agrees with her and says how he liked it too. they continue to walk and ushio collapses, she asks Tomoya if they are already on the train, he replies yes, she asks if it is night time because it is dark, he tells her, that it's the middle of the night. Ushio then says i love you and tomoya replies back saying i love you too, and she dies there.
Tomoya begins to sob in the middle of the street begging nagisa to save her for anyone to save her. The girl in the illusionary world is too beggining to die as the snow gets heavier.
Overall the episode was alright but still kinda tugged at the heartstrings a little. leaving you feeling absolutely sorry for tomoya and feeling that he doesn't deserve a life like this.
The part where Ushio was struggling to walk hit me the most, i was hoping that they'd actually reach the countryside again, and i was so annoyed with Tomoya just watching her struggle, if she were my child the minute she tripped over a bit, i would take her back home, but noooooo....... he had to be such a kind father and respect the wishes of a five year old girl!
when it started to snow and Tomoya had the flashback of when nagisa died but still carried on walking with Ushio despite knowing that she may die under the same conditions to, showed how he moved on from nagisa's death and how he was glad for Ushio or he knew that she was dyeing just like nagisa. the episode wasan't as upsetting like when nagisa died or the episodes before this one but when you watch it again and think about how people have lived these kind of lives except for the happy orbs and illusionary world bit, and there not being a reset button, it is very very very absolutely depressing! and as usual foolish kyoani decide to put that happy peppy foolish ending!!!!! don't they just realise they made a five year old girl just die, really these people are sadists. usually key would have the instinct like other shows they animated for key to have some beautiful sad yet touching song run through till the end and skip straight to the next time bit.
key is definently ultimate for visual novel storylines and i can't help but feel inspired to make touching stories like them.
well with one episode left and tomoya having his regrets of ever meeting nagisa and with the reset button, now finally coming into play would tomoya chose to be with nagisa again?
